Interview Process
1. Recruiter Screening
The first step in the interview process was an initial phone interview with a recruiter. This call was relatively short and focused on getting a high-level overview of my background and understanding if my experience aligned with the job requirements.

2. Technical Interview / Skills Assessment
After the recruiter screening, I had a technical interview focused on assessing my hands-on skills in assembly, leadership, and problem-solving. This was done over a video call, where I was asked about specific tools and machinery I had worked with in the past, as well as my approach to assembly processes.
Some of the key questions included:
- “Describe your experience with assembly line management. How do you ensure that all products are assembled to specification?”
- “What tools and equipment are you proficient in, and how have you used them in a past role?”
- “Can you walk me through a time when you identified a flaw in the assembly process? How did you address the issue?”
This part of the interview also involved a scenario-based question where I was asked to explain how I would approach a bottleneck in the assembly line. For example:
- “Imagine that one section of the assembly line is falling behind, causing delays in production. How would you handle this situation? What steps would you take to ensure the team gets back on track?“
3. Onsite / Virtual Team Interview
The next stage was an onsite or virtual interview with the hiring manager and members of the assembly operations team. This round involved more in-depth discussions about my experience with team leadership, process improvements, and managing operational challenges.
The interview consisted of:
Leadership & Team Management:
- “Tell me about a time when you had to handle a conflict between team members. How did you resolve the situation?”
- “How do you motivate your team to achieve production goals, especially when they are feeling fatigued or disengaged?”
- “Describe a time when you successfully trained someone new to the team. What was your approach, and what was the outcome?”
Problem-Solving & Process Optimization:
- “Can you provide an example of how you identified a problem in the assembly process and what you did to improve it?”
- “How do you prioritize tasks and ensure that your team works effectively to meet assembly targets?”
Operational Challenges & Safety:
- “Safety is a critical part of assembly operations. How do you ensure that your team adheres to safety protocols while maintaining efficiency?”
- “What steps do you take to minimize errors in the assembly process and ensure quality control?”
This stage also included role-play scenarios where I was asked to demonstrate how I would handle real-world challenges on the assembly floor, such as managing unexpected delays, quality control issues, or team performance problems.
4. Behavioral Interview
The final stage involved a behavioral interview with senior leadership, where the focus was on assessing my cultural fit within Lyft and how I align with the company’s values. This interview was also designed to assess my leadership style and ability to manage a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Some questions asked during this round included:
- “Describe a time when you had to implement a change on the assembly line. How did you get buy-in from your team?”
- “How do you manage competing priorities when production deadlines are tight?”
- “Lyft places a strong emphasis on innovation. How have you driven innovation in your previous roles, especially in assembly or manufacturing?”
The leadership team was particularly interested in how I would balance managing a productive, efficient assembly process with maintaining high team morale and safety standards.
